Through Triumph And Tragedy: F.D.N.Y. Pipes & Drums

Through Triumph and Tragedy: 50 Years of the F.D.N.Y. Pipes & Drums” is a fascinating documentary that chronicles the 50-year history and legacy of the world-renowned bagpipe band of the Fire Department of the City of New York (F.D.N.Y.), currently in-stock and ready-to-ship from TheFireStore.

Formed in 1962, the F.D.N.Y. Pipes & Drums band was created as a way for firefighters to celebrate their Irish heritage; it has since become one of the most important institutions in the F.D.N.Y. Fittingly, in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, they made it their mission to play every funeral and memorial service for the 343 members of the F.D.N.Y. that perished while valiantly trying to save others. Their dedication turned them into a globally recognized organization that stood as a symbol of freedom and honor.

Featuring personal, candid interviews with both charter and newer members of the band, the documentary is 1 hour and 43 minutes in duration and is narrated by retired F.D.N.Y. firefighter and character actor Jack McGee. F.D.N.Y. Chief of Department Edward Kilduff put it best: “The F.D.N.Y. Pipes & Drums are the heart and soul of the fire department.”
