There is no doubt that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge took our country by storm the last few weeks. It's amazing what a little challenge can do in the limelight of social media. ALSa.org has reached over 88.5 million dollars in donations through this challenge alone. It's incredible what can and will be done with that kind of money for research for this horrible disease.
What is ALS?
From their website, "Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed."
It was only a matter of time before it made it's way into Witmer Public Safety Group. Our Marketing and Purchasing Department get iced for a cause! Watch below:
They challenged our Senior Management Team (SMT) and below you can see how they responded to that challenge.
Our CEO seemed a little chilly, don't you think?
We are so happy to make a donation to go towards ALS research and we're also choosing to match our donation for a cause near and dear to us, ALZ.org, the Alzheimer's Association.
Dripping wet and cold for a cause...we're all for it! Amazing things this small challenge has done. We're proud to be a part of it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
