Jim was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease at only 57 years old, just three years ago. Alzheimer's is no longer just an "old persons disease", it is affecting those younger and younger all the time. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and sadly, that number is expected to grow to 16 million by 2050. Something needs to be done.
In January of 2013, Jim, with the rest of his family by his side announced to the company about his diagnosis. It was a moment of sadness, but of course, our CEO was cracking jokes and providing comedic relief in the midst of sharing his story. He's always been great about lightening the mood in a tough moment.
Jim leads a life of bravery, has always charged forward with new ideas, creating the businesses you all know and love today, and has provided his community with safety by volunteering and elevating through the ranks over the years. He's served as an Elder of his church, been awarded the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Philadelphia Region, was (and is!) a solid husband, and raised 4 great children over the years. He is the beloved Pop Pop to 7 grandchildren now.
Over the past few years, things have definitely changed. But one thing remains---the Witmer Family is still praying for, and working towards seeing a cure to End Alzheimer's.
Alzheimer's is an extremely underfunded disease, but it affects SO many. It's the 6th leading cause of death in the United States.
